My favorite flowers are daisies and tulips. I like daises because they can be red, blue, yellow, pink, purple, and orange. Daises have different varieties of colors. Daisies have fewer petals and they grow pretty tall. I like tulips because there are different colors such as white, yellow, red, pink, and purple. I also like tulips because they look like buds when they grow. All in all, these are all the flowers that I like. What are your favorite flowers and why?

If you were an author what would you write about? Would it be fantasy, biography, autobiography, mystery, informational, poetry, historical fiction, science fiction, or realistic fiction? There are so many to write about. If I were an author, I would write a fantasy about a dog looking for her owner and then a little girl about nine years old found her. Her name was Daisy. She cared deeply for the dog and named her Kim. In three days, the dog became pregnant and Daisy took her to the vet. Anyway, please share your thoughts and tell us what you would write about.

There are many things that are important to our lives, but I think the most important of all is computer! A computer is a machine that manipulates data. The first few electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century. The four main components are the arithmetic logic unit, the control unit, the memory, and the input and output devices. They are interconnected by groups of wires called busses. Now let me explain the arithmetic logic unit and the control unit. The arithmetic logic unit is a digital circuit that performs arithmetic and logical operations. The control unit is a part of whatsoever that controls its operation. Many people use computers for the Internet. If computers didn't exist, then many companies like Google would not have been here today. Think about it, engineers stare at computers for hours each day! Millions of people also use the computers for playing games. Without computers, there wouldn't be e-mail either. Typing up messages and sending it to the recipient in just a click is way better than sending it by paper mail. Gosh, it just feels hard thinking about how life would be without computers. Computers really do change our lives! Do you like using computers? If yes, what do you usually do? If not, please share a reason why.

Seven Wonders of the World

To decide the blog topic this time, I kept on wondering what to write. Then something struck my mind. The world is a very beautiful and wonderful place. Man made it even more wonderful. The proof lies in the wonders of the world. Do any of you know about the seven wonders of the modern world?
Here is the list - Chicken Itza, Machu Pichu, Christ The Redeemer, Roman Collosseum, Petra, Taj Mahal, and last but not the east The Great Wall of China. First, let's start with Chicken Itza. It is located in Mexico. It was home to the Mayans. An important specialty for this wonder is that twice a year when the sun is positioned right over the wonder it creates a shadow that looks like a giant, slithering snake heading towards the sacred cenote. Next is the Machu Pichu, located in Peru and sized 5 square miles. Machu Pichu was home to the Incas and known as "The Lost City of Incas". It is home to palaces, temples, baths, parks, and houses. Now to Christ the Redeemer which is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the 130 ft. tall statue of Christ standing in the shape of cross. This wonder has 222 steps to get up to the chapel, where weddings and baptisms are held traditionally. One of my favorite wonders is the Roman Colosseum in Rome, Italy. This place was an arena (with 50,000 seats), where gladiator battles took place. Currently 2/3 of the original colosseum is missing due to earthquakes and robbers. Now to Petra located in Jordan, a 30 square mile city. This monument is about 400 years old, but when or why it was built remains unknown. This city is also very rocky because it is built on mountains. Next is my personal favorite monument, the Taj Mahal located in Agra, India. This was a memorial created by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife. A unique thing about the Taj Mahal is that it as an onion shaped dome on the top. This beautiful monument is made of white marble and unbelievably took 22 years with 22,000 workers. And now to the only man made monument that can be seen with naked eye from space, The Great Wall of China, which is located in Gansu, China. It is 4,163 miles long and the walls are over 2,000 years old. It protected Chinese residents from attacks. I would like to conclude with a special mention about The Great Pyramid of Giza. It is the only monument still existing from the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. Just for the record, the other seven ancient wonders were - Statue of Zeus, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus,Temple of Artemis, Colossus of Rhodes, Lighthouse of Alexandria and Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Have you ever wondered what sport Kobe Bryant and LeBron James played? Of course, its basketball!!! Basketball was invented by a man named James Naismith, who was an instructor in Springfield Massachusetts. In the early times of basketball, players used peach baskets and a soccer ball. Basketball grew popular in the 1970's and the 1980's. The first time I played basketball, I couldn't shoot a basket at all. There are many forms of shooting such as lay ups, jump shots, hook shots, bank shots, free throws, and much more. You could also do slam dunks to score a basket. Slam Dunks are taken right up close to the hoop. Dunks are made when players leap high above their opponents and slam the ball into the hoop. You can use either two hands or single hand to make a dunk. After I got better at shooting, I started practicing lay ups and dunks. There has been many talented players in the NBA such as Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Shaquille O' Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Magic Johnson, Micheal Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, and Yao Ming. There are 82 games in 24 week long season. Have you ever played basketball before? For the ones who have not, are you willing to give it a try? Please tell us!!

Do you do anything special for New Year? Well I do. Japanese do many things for New Year. One activity is eating Ozoni, a soup they have for breakfast. It has carrots, daikon, baked mochi, chicken or shrimp, and chrysanthemum leaves. For dinner they mostly eat fish, other seafood and vegetables. Kids play many games. One game is like badminton, but instead you use a wood paddle and a wood ball with feathers on it. Another fun game is where you are blindfolded, and you try putting eyes, nose, mouth, etc in the right places. When you are done, you see how funny the face looks. Another very important activity during New Year is visiting family and friends. Do you do anything special on New Year?

Have you ever wondered what will replace the technology right now? Since right now we are still trying to discover new ways to help our world. I think in the future, I will see flying cars that run on electricity, tall buildings that has a stronger structure. We might also see robot servants, floating skateboards, and other things you can possibly imagine. The future should be cleaner and there should be another way to travel that will be easier than flying a plane like teleporting to the vacational spot you would like to go. The future will help everyone around the world. What do you think the future will look like? Tell us what the future will look like and what will be there in the future.
By: Jeffrey The Spy Five is a book series that I really like. The series is new to Mrs. Yu's library. I have read all the books in the series and I like all of them. For this post, I will give a review of all of the books. Here goes: The first book is called Kung Fooled You. A boy named Spencer has just moved from Maryland to Washington D.C. . Spencer quickly makes new friends. One of them are called Julian, one is called Blitz, one of them is Ursula, and the last one is Anika. Things are going weird now at Spencer's school when Spencer finds his math teacher doing Kung Fu! Will Spencer and his friends find out what is the mystery of their math teacher? Read the book Kung Fooled You to find out. Another book in the series is called Phantom Dribbler. It is about a P.E. coach who plans to make a basketball team for the school. Julian and the P.E. coach all want a team because they used to have one a few years ago and they want to continue it. There is only a problem. The coach just has one problem. He has heard that sometimes after school, a dribbling noise is heard. When the janitor opens the door, he finds nothing. It is up to the Spy Five to figure out who is the dribbler! Another book that I like in the Spy Five series is called Master Mole. The Spy Five has convinced the mean principal Mr. Naulty to make a field trip. Unfortunately, Mr. Naulty says he will cancel field trips forever if they don't behave. When Julian hears that four mean people in his science class plan to cause a lot of trouble at the field trip, Julian tells Spencer, Blitz, Anika, and Ursula about it. Can the Spy Five stop the bullies from messing up the trip or will field trips be canceled forever? Read Master Mole to find out. My favorite book in the series is called Super Five. It is about where the Spy Five is running for school president. Anika and Spencer are co-presidents, Blitz is Secretary of Technology, Ursula is Treasurer/CFO, and Julian is Secretary of Athletics. They are facing this party called the Star Party where there is this very popular girl called Jasmine. Jasmine has a big advantage because she is preparing a bake sale the day before and all of the people in her party are popular. Then, Jasmine's bake sale gets drenched by rain and people are barely noticing her anymore. Will the Spy Five win? Read the book to find out. These are just some of my favorite books in the series. What is most common about Sachin Tendulkar, Separamadu Lasith Malinga, and Shane Warne? These people are cricketers (people who play Cricket) who play for their national teams. Cricket is a bat-and-ball sport with 11 people on each team. There are two teams. One is fielding and one is batting.
Let me tell you about the field. The stadium is oval- shaped. In the center, there is a dirt area with a line on each side; the line is called the crease. There are also 6 wicket stumps, and there are 3 on each side of the dirt area. On the outer side of the field there is a boundary. On the fielding team, there is a bowler (like a pitcher in baseball), nine fielders, and a wicketkeeper (like a catcher). There is also a batting team. The batting team has two batsmen on the field at one time. One of them is batting and the other one, the runner, is at the other wicket. The batter's job is to prevent getting out and hit as many runs as possible. To get the batters out, the fielding team must do one of the following: 1. The batter guards the wicket and tries to prevent the ball from hitting the wicket stumps. If the ball hits the wicket, the batter's out. This is called bowled. 2. Just like baseball, if the fielding team catches the ball without the ball bouncing on the ground, the batter's out. 3.If the ball hits the batter's leg and his leg is lined up with the stumps, and the ball is headed for the wicket, the batter is out. This is known as lbw.4.If the batter is running to the base, and the bowler/wicketkeeper gets the ball and knocks the stump down before the batter gets to the base, this is run out, and the batsman is out.5.If the batter swings the bat back and hits the stumps with his bat while doing so, this is hit wicket, and this is out.6.If the batter uses his hand to protect the stumps in any way, he is out.7. If the batsmen get in the way of a fielder, he is out. Now to the batting team -To hit a run, the batter hits the ball, and both batter and runner must get to the other stumps before they get run out. If the batter hits the ball and it goes past the boundary in the stadium, this is four runs. If the ball is hit out of the park, it is six runs. Unlike baseball, there are no strikes, so the batsmen could go on forever if they don't get out. Bowlers take turns bowling, and one turn is known as an over, which consists of six balls. The team which scores the most runs is the winner. If the team fielding gets the last person out, and the fielding team has more runs, the fielding team wins. If the batting team gets more runs than the fielding team, the batting team wins. If the batting team wins, we see how many people aren't out. If team a wins and they have 5 players who aren't out, you'll say they won by 5 wickets. I hope you'll like to play cricket and get good at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
