Rain! Rain!

Rain, rain, I love rain!!! These past days have been very rainy. It is so ...... awesome!!!!! I like the rain because then we can have indoor recess, and I love indoor recess. I also heard that the first week of March is going to be rainy. What a way to start March!!!! I'm also glad that there is rain because the San Lois Reservoir gives water to all of us, and it's drying up!! Oh no!!!! The goverment says that if the reservoir keeps dryng up then our water supply will be limited. So since it's raining a lot, the reservoir will start filling up. Yay!!! One reason that I don't like rain is because when I am in the house and it starts raining, I don't feel like doing anything except for staying in the house. Truat me, that's not fun!!! What are your thoughts about rain, and why? What do you like to do in the rain? Do you stay indoors like me?

St. Patrick's Day

By: Aditya Saint Patrick's Day is coming up in March!!! Do you want to see leprechauns dancing in front of you? Well, I am going to tell you some facts about Saint Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day custom came to America in 1737. That was the first year St. Patrick's Day was publicly celebrated in this country, in Boston. Today, people celebrate the day with parades, wearing something green, and drinking beer. One reason St. Patrick's Day might have become so popular is that it takes place just a few days before the first day of spring. One might say it has become the first green of spring! The legend says when leprechauns come out, they make traps. If you could grab the shamrocks from the traps, leprechauns will spill the shamrocks on your head. Among the most popular of beliefs about leprechauns is that they are extremely wealthy and like to hide their gold in secret locations, which can only be revealed if a person were to actually capture and interrogate a leprechaun for its money. Another popular belief is that you may find a leprechaun and his pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. What do you know about St. Patrick's Day? Inspiration!!

By: Auboni There are so many things in life we love and enjoy, and many people we look up to for inspiration. Do you enjoy a particular hobby? Did some people inspire you into doing it? For me, my hobby in drawing was inspired by many famous artists and their work. Oh, take a look at Starry Night by Van Gough, how wonderful he could turn an object from dull to magical with just the paint! I also have a passion in playing soccer and I was inspired by the great female player Mia Hamm. Do you have a hobby that was inspired by someone you know?

February Break

By: Chinmaya February Break is GONE?!! Sadly, the February Break is over! I wish it were longer than two weeks. I was about to go skiing with my friends in Bear Valley, but there was a blizzard there so we could not go. I also took a lot of my time working on my Dream Bedroom Project. I sadly did not read The Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3, but I read (am reading) Inkdeath. When I told you that I didn't go skiing, I actually had a 11 hour playdate with my friend. Also, on the last day of the February Break, I had a music concert in a temple. During the 11 hour playdate, we played the Wii for almost four hours straight!! At the end of the break, did you want to go back to school or did you want to have a longer break? Did you do anything special over the break?

STAR WARS

A Review of Star Wars by Mihir: Star Wars by George Lucas tells how the Sith (the bad guys) slowly take control of the Galactic Republic and reorganize it into the Galactic Empire in episodes 1-3, and in episodes 4-6 tells about a boy called Luke Skywalker who joins a rebellion vowing to bring peace and justice back into the galaxy, along with many unforgettable allies such as Obi Wan Kenobi the Jedi knight, Han Solo the smuggler, and the robots C3PO and R2D2. Along the way, Luke discovers that Darth Vader, a Sith lord, is actually his father! Next, he learns that Vader had been a Jedi Knight once, as the apprentice of Obi Wan. Later Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force (the special power the Jedi and Sith use) and had turned back on the Jedi, helping the Sith take control of the galaxy. After learning this, Luke thinks there is still good in his father, and sets out to bring Vader back to the light side of the force, and succeeds with much difficulty. I hope you will enjoy reading the Star Wars books and enjoy watching the movies!

Presidents!!

The great presidents from George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, from Thomas Jefferson to Theodore Roosevelt, and from John Fitzgerald Kennedy to Barack Hussein Obama have worked hard to earn their presidency. President's Day is to honor all these great presidents. This Thursday, Abraham Lincoln is turning 200 yrs. old! Former President Ronald Reagan turned 98 on the 6th of February, and George Washington is turning 276 the same day I am turning 10 on February 22nd! Four very famous Inaugural speeches were made by John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and our current president Barack Hussein Obama. "And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," -John Fitzeragald Kennedy. "The only thing to fear is to fear itself,"- Franklin Delano Roosevelt

" We are not enemies, but friends,"-Abraham Lincoln " Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down, and start in remaking America," -Barack Obama. Some Interesting Facts:

1. The Washington Monument was built to honor our first president.

2. The 36 columns around the Lincoln Memorial symbolize each of the states of the Union in existence at the time of Lincoln's death.

3.Between 1927 and 1941, sculptor, Gutzon Borglum and 400 workers sculpted the busts of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln into the mountainside to represent the first 150 years of American history. Please tell us who is your favorite president and why.

Bottlenose Dolphins

By: Rishita Hi Room 24! We have been studying Island of the Blue Dolphins in class, but how much do you know about dolphins? Bottlenose dolphins are really interesting aquatic mammals! Unlike human, they have a very cool way of communicating by making high-pitch whistles, clicks, and using body language. Bottlenose dolphins are like the acrobats of the sea. They can swim really fast to the surface and then leap out of the water. They do all this just to breathe! They jump about five feet in the air at one time! To do this, dolphins must swim at a speed of twelve miles per hour. That is high for just one dolphin! Most dolphins go around together in groups called schools, or pods. It’s basically like a herd, with a few males and females grouped together. Did you know? 1. Bottlenose dolphin is an endangered species. 2. Bottlenose dolphin has its name because its beak is shaped like the neck of a bottle. 3. Dolphins don’t mean to save anyone; they just like to push objects around.
